Northeast Park is a conveniently located neighborhood in northeast Minneapolis situated in close proximity to downtown Minneapolis and nearby commercial corridors. The neighborhood is bound by Central Avenue to the west, 18th Avenue and New Brighton Boulevard to the north, Interstate 35W to the east and south and Broadway Street to the southwest.
The Northeast Park neighborhood is split into three main and distinctly different areas. The eastern third of the neighborhood is home to Hillside Cemetery and a large facility for Honeyell, Inc, the middle third is home to The Quarry Shopping Center and ancillary commercial businesses and the western third of Northeast Park is a mix of residential, light industrial and commercial uses.
The Quarry Shopping Center is the main retail and shopping area within the neighborhood. This shopping center is home to a Target Store, Home Depot, Rainbow Foods grocery store, Petco and a few casual dining options.
A few blocks southwest of Northeast Park is the bustling Hennepin Avenue commercial corridor. In this trendy area, residents will find several longtime and popular Minneapolis landmarks including, Kramarczuk’s eastern European deli, Surdyk’s Wine Store and Deli, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (the oldest church in Minneapolis) and Nye's Polonaise, named “Best Bar in America” by Esquire Magazine in October of 2006. North of the Northeast Park along Central Avenue, residents will find a thriving shopping area featuring Indian grocery stores, and Middle Eastern and Latin American restaurants and markets. The neighborhood’s main park, Northeast Park, is a popular park that features several athletic fields, picnic areas, multiple tennis and volleyball courts, a golf putting course and plenty of open green space. Adjacent to Northeast Park is the Jim Lupient Water Park. This water park is especially popular with neighborhood children during long summer days and features several water slides, a lap pool, wading pool, interactive fountains and concessions.
Located on the far eastern side of the neighborhood is the Gross National Golf Club, a Minneapolis municipal golf course that originally opened in 1925 and hosted the 1964 USGA National Championship. This 18-hole mature course features gently rolling hills and is also popular during winter months for the miles of cross country ski trails.
The neighborhood is located next to Interstate 35W providing residents quick and easy access in and out of Northeast Park. Additionally, Central Avenue on the western border takes residents quickly into downtown Minneapolis a few miles south.
The neighborhood is evenly split between home owners and renters, with owner occupied homes making up 53% percent of all households in Northeast Park with the remaining 47% of households classified as renters. Average median household income is $36,389 per household as compared to an overall household income for Minneapolis of $37,974.
