The Fulton neighborhood, named after Robert Fulton, the 19th century inventor of the steamboat, is located in the southwest corner of Minneapolis bordering the suburb of Edina. Fulton, similar to the surrounding neighborhoods in southwest Minneapolis, contains charming homes, unique retail areas and access to several natural and recreational amenities. The neighborhood is bound by France Avenue to the west, 47th Street to the north, Penn Avenue to the east and 54th Street to the south.

The northeast side of the neighborhood borders the beautiful 335-acre Lake Harriet, part of the Minneapolis chain of lakes and one of the most popular recreational areas in the city. Residents of Lynnhurst have easy access to the pedestrian and bike trails that follow Lake Harriet’s perimeter and lead to swimming beaches, fishing piers, concessions and the famous Lake Harriet Bandshell, an area landmark since 1927. Other natural attractions adjacent to Lake Harriet and just north of the neighborhood include as the Lyndale Park Rose Garden, Peace garden, Thomas Sadler Roberts bird sanctuary and Lake Calhoun.

The neighborhoods main park, Pershing Field, named after General John J. “Blackjack” Pershing, commander of American forces in World War I, is located in the northwest portion of the neighborhood and is very popular amongst Fulton residents. Pershing Park features several amenities including baseball, softball and soccer fields, playground, wading pool and brand new tennis and basketball courts installed in 2008. In addition, Minnehaha Creek passes through the southern portion of the neighborhood and is surrounded by diverse and architecturally distinct single family homes.

Fulton is nearly all residential and there are a few neighborhood commercial areas along 50th Street, the main street that dissects the neighborhood, which offer residents access to an abundance of various retail, entertainment, fine dining and independently owned businesses. These areas include the intersections of 50th Street & France, 50th Street and Xerxes Avenue and 50th Street and Penn Avenue. The well known 50th & France area includes over 175 upscale retailers and offices offering professional services and includes various apparel stores, jewelers, restaurants, cafes, spas, salons a movie theater and large grocery store. Residents of Fulton also enjoy the Edina Art Fair, a annual nationally recognized event that attracts some 70,000+ visitors. The intersections further east along 50th Street at Xerxes Avenue and Penn Avenue also offer Fulton residents alternative fine dining options, boutique shopping and several other independently owned retail businesses. Additionally, the nearby shopping/retail areas of Southdale and Linden Hills are just minutes away.

Fulton is a very family oriented neighborhood and there are two top schools in the neighborhood: Lake Harriet Elementary School (grades 3-8), part of the Minneapolis Public School System, and Carondolet, a private catholic elementary school located along a quiet residential street.

There are very few renters in the neighborhood with owner occupied homes making up 89% percent of all households in Lynnhurst. Average median household income is high at $77,371 per household as compared to an overall household income for Minneapolis of $37,974, making Fulton one of the more affluent neighborhoods in Minneapolis.
