The Cedar-Isles-Dean neighborhood, which is named after Cedar Lake, Lake of the Isles and Dean Parkway, is located in the heart of the chain of lakes, contains an abundance of green space and is in close proximity to shopping and commercial districts. This west Minneapolis neighborhood is bound by Lake Street to the south, France Avenue to the west, 24th Street and Cedar Lake to the north, and Thomas Avenue, Lake of the Isles and Calhoun Parkway to the east.

Because the neighborhood is nearly surrounded by lakes, there are numerous recreational amenities within the neighborhood. Lake of the Isles, which also connects to the larger and busier Lake Calhoun to the south and the serene Cedar Lake to the north, is located along the eastern portion of the neighborhood.  The 109-acre Lake of the Isles is surrounded by walking and cycling paths and features an abundance of open green space throughout. There is a popular 3.6-acre off-leash dog park on the south end of the lake and during the winter months, the large part of the northern portion of the lake is transformed in a skating and hockey rink.

Cedar Lake, which is in the center of the neighborhood, features three popular sandy beaches, Cedar Point, Cedar South and East Cedar, all within walking distance to residents of Cedar-Isles-Dean. The lake is a very popular urban fishing destination and a favorite amongst canoers and kayakers due to the smaller channels that connect to Brownie Lake, Lake of the Isles and Lake Calhoun beyond. Bordered by Cedar Lake Parkway, Cedar Lake features cycling and walking paths around part of the lake which are easily accessible to Kenwood residents by the Cedar Lake Trial and the Kenilworth Trail. The larger Cedar Lake Trail, known as America’s first bike freeway, travels directly east into downtown Minneapolis and also connects to the Midtown Greenway.

Lake Calhoun, located on the south side of the Neighborhood, is the largest lake in Minneapolis and another popular destination for residents of Cedar-Isles-Dean. This 401-acre lake is surrounded by parks, bike paths, walking paths and offers numerous recreational amenities including fishing docks, swimming beaches, sailing, volleyball courts, soccer fields, and a popular fish and chips eatery named "The Tin Fish".

Along the southern portion of neighborhood is the 5.7-mile Midtown Greenway, a popular and virtually traffic-free route across the city for cyclists, inline skaters, runners and pedestrians.

While the neighborhood is almost all residential, along Lake Street on the southern boundary of the neighborhood, there is a commercial district, primarily located in the Calhoun Village Center. Residents will find restaurants such as Burger Jones, Punch Pizza, a Mediterranean café and other specialty shops. Tryg’s is another lively restaurant located next door to the retail center and across the street is a popular Whole Foods grocery store.

The neighborhood is a good mixture of homeowners and renters, with owner occupied homes making up 55% percent of all households in Cedar-Isles-Dean. Average median household income is $86,892 per household as compared to an overall household income for Minneapolis of $37,974, making the neighborhood one of the more affluent neighborhoods in Minneapolis.
