The East Phillips neighborhood, originally named after Wendell Phillips, a well known 19th century abolitionist, is one of the oldest areas in the city and is a quiet neighborhood with a mix of residential, commercial and industrial uses. This south Minneapolis neighborhood located only minutes from downtown Minneapolis is bound by Bloomington Avenue to the west, 24th and 22nd Streets to the north, Hiawatha Avenue to the east and Lake Street to the south.

There are additional smaller commercial areas primarily located along Bloomington Avenue that offer an alternative to the busier Lake Street corridor.
