The Lowry Hill neighborhood, named after Thomas Lowry, a 19th century real-estate magnate who oversaw the growth of streetcar lines in Minneapolis, is a quiet residential neighborhood conveniently located five minutes southwest of downtown Minneapolis and in close proximity to recreation, entertainment, shopping and cultural attractions. This asymmetrical shaped neighborhood is bound by Lake of the Isles Parkway, Logan and Morgan Avenues to the west, Interstate 394 to the north, Lyndale and Hennepin Avenues to the east and 22nd Street to the south.

The neighborhood is primarily residential and contains some of the oldest homes in the city, several of which, are on the National Historic Register. Lowry Hill is characterized by old growth trees, large lawns and tree lined boulevards. The northern portion of the neighborhood around Mt. Curve Avenue features stately homes, curved streets, rolling terrain and sits high overlooking downtown Minneapolis; while the southern portion of the neighborhood features upscale Victorian style homes, is relatively flat and is laid out in a traditional grid system.

There is an abundance of green space throughout Lowry Hill. Lake of the Isles, which also connects to the larger and busier Lake Calhoun to the south and the serene Cedar Lake to the north, is located in the southwestern portion of the neighborhood.  The 109-acre Lake of the Isles is surrounded by walking and cycling paths and features an abundance of open green space throughout. There is a popular 3.6-acre off-leash dog park on the south end of the lake and during the winter months, the large part of the northern portion of the lake is transformed in a skating and hockey rink.

The 32.7-acre Kenwood Park, located just north of Lake of the Isles, is a very popular destination for neighbor residents and features rolling hills, tennis courts, walking paths, softball fields and a playground. Located in the northern portion of the neighborhood is Parade Athletic Fields, which features well manicured baseball and soccer fields and an indoor ice arena.

On the eastern edge of Lowry Hill along Hennepin Avenue, residents will find café’s, restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, bookstores, grocery stores and several specialty stores. Additionally, the trendy and fashionable Uptown area is just a short distance south of the neighborhood and busy downtown Minneapolis is just minutes north on Hennepin Avenue.

Cultural attractions within the neighborhood include the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, one of the leading cultural icons in Minnesota and the impressive Walker Art Center, one of the country's foremost contemporary art institutions. The neighborhood also features two well known schools, the prestigious Blake High School and the Dunwoody College of Technology.

Home owners are not the majority in the neighborhood, with owner occupied homes making up just 33% percent of all households in Lowry Hill, with the remaining 66% of households classified as renters. Average median household income is $47,137 per household as compared to an overall household income for Minneapolis of $37,974.
